On a day like this, it really amplifies our need for an all-weather facility in Broadford Rovers FC. All our home games on the Broadford Pitches and Marlay Park are called off due flooded pitches and may be off for weeks to come. Our committee have spent the last 3 years looking for solutions which included, a joint venture with a local school, unfortunately no school has the space. Use of the public all-weather pitch in Marlay Park on Sunday, this is not available as it is block booked in total by 1 club on Saturdays and Sundays. Weather isn’t the only issue, we also require a full size all weather pitch to ensure our club’s sustainability and to keep costs within our own control. Presently, our club is paying for external training slots and the cost of these have risen by 20% since September, this is not sustainable, again brings use back to the fact that Broadford Rovers FC need our own all weather facility.
We believe our only route forward now is to extend our current 5 aside Astro pitches to a full size 11 a side all-weather facility funded by the club. We have sent a proposal to DLRCOCO, as shown on the drawings attached and are awaiting an update.
So, what do we need, firstly we have a great architect and club member Bernard Voortman (Cummins + Voortman) working with us on the project, but we need more help from anyone within or outside of the club. If you think you can add your expertise to this project, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
A number of TDs and local councillors have backed the club on this, which is brilliant, but we need them now to work with Broadford Rovers FC and with DLRCoCo to develop this new all-weather facility on our existing main pitch. A new all-weather facility will be great addition to the wellbeing of kids and young adults in our community and guarantee our members a place to play football for generations to come.
The drawing attached are just visuals and are not final, they will be subject to change throughout the process
